Seventeen years ago, 60 Minutes had a story that examined the French Paradox. It showed that the French, despite a diet high in fat coupled with high wine consumption, had a remarkably low incidence of heart disease, compared with Americans. The conclusion of the story was that many experts believed there was something good in the red wine. Soon after the federal dietary guidelines were changed to indicate moderate consumption of red wine could be beneficial.

In late January CBS News ran a follow-up story by Morley Safer called “Fountain of Youth in a Wine Rx.” The gist of the story is that Resveratrol has been identified by researchers as the miracle substance in red wine. Resveratrol it seems if consumed in large quantities is a powerful antioxidant, good for your heart, and can even extend lifespan. Pharmaceutical companies are racing to develop and test a synthetic version of resveratrol.

Synthetic Resveratrol – what a joke! We’ve been marketing an all natural Resveratrol product called Resvert for years. It contains 50mg of resveratrol and costs less than $30 for a month’s supply. You’d have to drink 50 glasses of red wine a day to receive that much resveratrol.
