What is Selenium?
Until the late 1950s, selenium was thought to be toxic but is now known to be an essential trace mineral. Although it can indeed be toxic at high doses (more than one milligram a day), it is now recognized as an important element of nutrition. Selenium is an important part of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase. It helps protect cells against the effects of free radicals that are produced during normal oxygen metabolism.* The selenium used in our products is derived from selenomethionine.
Our Selenium 100 mcg is available in both 60 and 120 vegetarian capsules.
Supplement Spot’s best seller Maximum Prostate also contains Selenium along with Phytopin®, Soy Isoflavones and Zinc Citrate for natural prostate support.

As always, consult your physician before taking supplements, especially if you have a medical or psychiatric condition, or are pregnant or lactating. Large doses (1 mg or more daily) can cause toxicity with symptoms such as: loss of hair and nails, skin lesions, nervous system abnormalities, digestive problems and garlicky breath. Consult a health care practitioner if you experience any of these symptoms while taking selenium. In long term clinical studies performed by Clark et al. for 16 years, no adverse effects were reported at use levels of 200 mcg/day, in the form of an organic selenium supplement. If you are pregnant or lactating consult your health care practitioner prior to using Selenium.
